hHello and welcome to our final installment of The Tiny’s Guide for SS2017!  This post will be looking at patterns and yarns based on our trend report of last seasons NYFW!

Gonna go ahead and get started here with…

Fun Colorwork

Different from it’s cheeky Milan counterpart, the colorwork on New York runways were a blend of funny, kitschy and pretty.

Patterns Fun Burcl
Serape Shawl $5.50

After our travels across the country this winter, both Caroline and I are preeeettttyyyyy obsessed with the desert and the Southwest.  The turquoise, feathers,  Southwestern food and Native tribal art are all pretty high up on our list right now, which is why I immediately fell in love with the Serape Shawl by Megi Burci for Knitscene!!  Love the colors and the ease in this pattern, it’s such a great way to learn colorwork!

Patterns Fun Costa
SkullKerchief FREE

Here is the dark, cool and kitschy NYC that we know and love!  This handkerchief, or SKULLkerchief, pattern by Knitty or Nice is such a great way to develop your intarsia techniques this summer!!  It’s also a great quick knit, perfect as a gift for any occasion.

Patterns Fun Pickles
Feather Sweater

Feathers were a big part of the pretty colorwork we saw on NYC runways.  I love the single large feather on this uber romantic sweater!  This little dream is the Feather Sweater by Anna & Heidi Pickles

Long Sleeves

Super looooonnnnnggggg sleeves were everywhere.  For a little bit now, you can’t find a runway without an abnormally long sleeve, and that for sure includes FW2017.  There aren’t too many patterns that call for that long of a sleeve, so you’re just going to have to add 6″ on your own. 😉  Here are some of our favorite basics that would love amazing with longer sleeves.

Patterns Sleeves Buraya-Kefelian
Guld $8.00

I feel in LOVE with this pullover the second I saw it.  That neckline!!!  But also the garter, the yarn, all of it!  Look and feel like a freaking long-sleeved knight in Guld by Olga Buraya-Kefelian for WOOLFOLK’s LUFT COLLECTION released just a few weeks ago.  The pattern is $8.00, but honestly just get the whole book, it’s so great.

Patterns Sleeves Draper
Easel $9.00

More of that contrasting yarn please!!  I mean, what’s better than using up the whole skein?!  Making the sleeves much longer is the way :))  This awesome sweater is Easel by Sue McCain for the MDK Field Guide No. 3: Wild Yarn.  Again you should totally 100% get the whole Field Guide if you haven’t already, it looks incredible!

Patterns Sleeves Locateli
Granito $6.50

Granito is my HoF basic.  I’m obsessed with the construction and panels of this sweater, it is the PERFECT basic PLUS it has pockets I mean…<3!!! How cool would this sweater be with extra long sleeves?!  Ugh, what a dream.

Maxi Dresses

Loving all these knit maxi dresses on the runways.  They’re such a great layering tool transitioning into fall while also being a complete outfit in the summer!

Patterns Maxi WATG
Johanna FREE

It’s long, it’s light, it’s trendy, it knits up quick and the pattern is free.  If you’re looking for a summer knit more enticing, then I’m sorry it just does not exist.  I can’t stop dreaming about all the cotton and linen and other non-wooly yarns I can use to make this Johanna dress by WATG for Rowan!

Patterns Maxi LANGYARNS
243-05 $6.00

GASP! Gasp gasp gasp gasp gasp!!!  This dress came down from the runway heavens I swear, it is perfection!!  Click on the link so you can see the stitch detail and then squeeeeeeeeeee along with me!!  Thank you LANG yarns, for this stunner of a dress XOXO

SONY DSC
Korean Polka $3.98

Pockets, y’all!  Such a darling oversized sweater dress, perfect for lounging, brightening up Mondays and getting jealous glares about town.  I love the uniqueness of this garment!  This is Korean Polka by Cello Knits

Blue Yarn

We close out our Tiny’s Guide with the runway’s color of choice, Blue!  You guys, finding a few favorite “blue yarns” is incredibly hard.  There are infinite choices and SO MANY yarn companies that we crush on daily!  We chose 3. (That’s insane right?!)  Oh well we did it. WE ARE INSANE!!  Have to start with Quince & Co.’s new marled Sparrow in Surf!  The marl is so subtle, adding just a little bit of oomph to our favorite linen.  I love using sock yarn in the summer for everything, so we had to go with this stunner of a colorway called Deep Blue Sea by Black Cat Custom Yarn.  Can’t decide on a blue?  Here’s all of them in a harmonious and super saturated skein!  Hoping to get my hands on this soon.  Lastly, we have our Forever Yarn Crush, Knit Collage, in the MOST fun summer yarn ever – Wildflower Drifter Yarn in Pale Lime.  Yes, I know, Pale LIME??  Certainly is not blue, but the blue details with the yellow flowers are so beautiful, I couldn’t help myself 😉

Thus concludes our first ever Tiny’s Guide, le sigh.  We hope you’ve enjoyed our selects, and would love to hear some of your favorites for this summer, and also some other Tiny’s Guides you would like to see!!

Until next time,

XOXO
